A Los Angeles must visit if you enjoy Mariscos! No-frills Mexican food truck known for crispy shrimp tacos, shucked oysters, seafood cocktails. Everything so fresh and delicious! No ATM nearby. Parking: you might have to circle the block a few times - worth it... Avoid imitators with the same menu close by- go straight to "Mariscos Jalisco Truck", for da best in town. Owner and staff so nice.
Ive simply been thinking about these since I ate them. Rent free. I didn't even know what to expect because what even is a crispy shrimp taco with tomato sauce but man oh man she was SO good. Get some to take home and reheat in the air fryer to keep the crispy nature. The flavor is so hard to explain but the hype is real i promise.
I was in the area for work, and felt pretty lucky when I realized I was close to Mariscos Jalisco - one of Jonathan Gold's favorites and winner of a Michelin Bib Gourmand. Mariscos Jalisco is a food truck with a brick and mortar dining room in Boyle Heights. The woman taking orders was friendly. I ordered a tostada de aguachile rojo and three shrimp tacos, waited for a little bit for my food, and then took my plates inside to eat at a table. The aguachile was great - a nice level of spice and I enjoyed the texture of the shrimp. The shrimp tacos started off way too hot. Not-quite-pro tip: let them cool down a little bit before taking a bite. Once the taco cooled down enough to be able to taste it? Delicious. I get the fuss. That Bib Gourmand was well earned. Three tacos plus a tostada was really a little more food than I needed for lunch. Two tacos and a tostada would have been sufficient. That said, I enjoyed that third taco. Would I go back?I'd be more likely to go to one of their other trucks that is closer to me, but as I'm writing this review I'm thinking that I could really go for a couple more of those tacos...
Want to impress LA visitors? Take them here for the shrimp tacos that will take them to Mars. They are out of this world delicious. Not a lot of seating. Service is super quick, and we decided to take it to-go, which they packed up very well (appreciated the cut corner in the styrofoam box). From Boyle Heights to Santa Monica, the crispy shrimp tacos maintained its crunch. Beware. This is the type of spot you're going to start craving for.
My boyfriend introduced me to Mariscos Jalisco for their famous shrimp tacos. Be careful because there are copycat versions of this food truck in the area but they are the original. They have a food truck where they prepare the food and they are attached to an indoor area with a decent amount of indoor seating if you want to enjoy your meal immediately. Street parking is limited and sketch. We ordered 3 Tacos De Camaron ($2.50/each), a Tostada Camaron ($7.75) and a Coke ($3.50/can). While we were waiting for the food, I noticed their accolades: Restaurant Guru, LA Weekly, 101 Best Restaurants in LA, Jonathan Gold's 101, LA Street Food Fest, Eater, and more. Wow! The food was prepared in an adequate time period. It was super fresh and made to order. The shrimp tacos were battered and fried, and I love that it was topped with an avocado. Delicious and good value. I liked the tostado but in retrospect we should have just gotten 4 shrimp tacos. When we come back I'll be all in with the shrimp tacos. Highly recommended if you enjoy fried shrimp tacos!
My rating is for the service only. This is my first time and so far I am pleased. I will update shortly with how long I had to wait for my food...mind you...I've counted over 60 people outside. Half the people are waiting for their food and 10 people are ahead of me. ( There's probably another 25-30 people inside) Wait time...going on 12 minutes now I waited 20 minutes for them to take my order and then another 15 minutes to get my food. The food was good and fresh. Good sized portion. I'd give this place a 7/10.
Mariscos Jalisco is renowned in Los Angeles. Incredibly fresh seafood and uhm... Bib Gourmand?! Excuse me... you know this place is crushing the taco game. What I also liked was that once you order from the food truck, you're able to eat your taco from a nice air conditioned room where you'll be welcomed by all of their recognitions. Everything feels so fresh and healthy, you almost feel like you'd be wrong for not eating a second or third taco.
We ordered the shrimp tacos here, with aquachile. The tacos are definitely fantastic - the way they serve it with the avocado and sauce. The octopus has an acquired taste to it - would definitely visit again. Knocking off one star as it just didn't hit the spot for me in the end.
Whew! I am embarrassed to admit I didn't want to believe Jonathan Gold's reviews of this place. The shrimp tacos were fantastic. The line was quick too. Taste: we got a bunch of shrimp tacos and the mixta. Wow, I could have had 5 of these shrimp tacos they were so good. Crispy in the right ways, not greasy, savory but not too salty. The texture was really nice. I'm not a huge fan of ceviche usually, and might skip the mixta next time (it was good though). I would just get a ton of tacos. Experience: Bring cash. I forgot and had to do the walk of shame down to the gas station and come back. I was surprised there was another mariscos truck down the block with a way way longer line. This service was incredibly fast and has indoor seating, which was comfortable if basic. There's no real curb appeal to the building or decor but thoughts like that melt away at first bite. Mood Before/After: I was cranky before I ate and felt ready to go make stuff afterwards. Fullness: full enough but wanted to savor the taste and eat more What else did I eat/do today affecting my experience: I was in the workshop making stuff and feeling good, though tired and hungry.
Came in right before the lunch rush so we were able to order and be on our way in under 15 minutes. Ordered shrimp tacos, Poseidon tostada, and coctel. Shrimp tacos are fried perfectly: crunchy on the outside and warm with shrimp and potato chunks on the inside. The Poseidon and coctel were served chill. Both had a little heat to it, which made us all sweat a little. Luckily for us, we had some cold Modelos to pair with our meal, which nicely rounded out our meal.
